Legacy10 is an independent campaign, launched by Roland Rudd in November 2011, with the aim of encouraging charitable giving in the United Kingdom.
Currently, three quarters of the population give something to charity every year but only 7% of that group leave a gift to charity in their will. Changes introduced in April 2012 mean that a gift of at least 10% in the form of a legacy creates a 10% cut in the inheritance tax liability, hugely benefiting good causes
The Legacy10 Award for Excellence, now in its third year, was established to recognise those who have contributed to legacy giving in the UK through innovation and service. The Legacy10 Award for Excellence will provide £5000 to the winning individual as well as £5000 to the charity which they represent.
The judging panel will comprise a number of senior leaders from the worlds of philanthropy, the arts, business and the media. The panel will interview all shortlisted candidates in London.
The award is open to individuals that have implemented innovative solutions to improve the ability of their charity to develop a sustainable source of future income by increasing legacy giving. The award is open to all legacy fundraisers working for a registered UK charity. The prize will not necessarily be given to the individual that has raised the most from legacies but rather to the individual that has been the most innovative in their approach. The judging panel will also take into account the impact that applicants have had on the legacy giving agenda outside of their own charity.
