Legacy10 is pleased to announce that Michael Clark, Legacy and In-memory Manager at the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, has won the Legacy10 award for 2015.
Michael receives a prize of £5000, with his charity receiving a matched sum.
Two other shortlisted entrants, Mark Webb of the Heritage Alliance, and Anna Somerset of St. Christopher’s Hospice, were highly commended by the judging panel. Mark’s charity will receive a prize of £1000, and Legacy10 has agreed to fund a promotional video on legacies for Anna.
The panel, comprising senior experts in the fields of philanthropy, business and the media and chaired by Legacy10 founder and Chairman Roland Rudd, agreed that Michael was an inspiring example of the hardworking and passionate legacy-fundraisers working throughout the UK. Michael was chosen from a shortlist of five candidates representing a range of both large and small charities.
Roland Rudd, founder and Chair of Legacy10, commented:
“Legacies ensure sustainable sources of funding for charities. Michael impressed the judges with his passion and commitment for his role. We hope winning this award will inspire him further as a leader in his sector.”
The award, specially created by the British artist Mark Plenderleith, will be presented by Ed Vaizey MP, Minister of State at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, at a private dinner with the winner and judges in May.
Culture Minister Ed Vaizey MP said:
“We have a fantastic tradition of legacy giving in the UK, which is hugely valuable to charities and the cultural sector. The government has made it simpler and more cost effective for people to leave a legacy, and I hope people are inspired by this award to do so.”
The Legacy10 Award for Excellence was set up to recognise those who have contributed to legacy giving in the UK through innovation and delivery, and was open to all legacy fundraisers working for a registered UK charity.

About Legacy10
Legacy10 is a campaigning organisation launched in the autumn of 2011 in order raise awareness of the Government’s changes to inheritance tax which came into force in April 2012. Since that date, anyone who leaves at least 10% of their wealth to charity will have their inheritance tax bill reduced from 40% to 36%. The Legacy10 campaign has the full support of the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, as well as Cabinet Office.
Background to the Legacy10 Award for Excellence
In our report ‘Removing Barriers to Legacy Giving’ which was published in November 2012, Legacy10 made ten recommendations to Government to help increase legacy giving in the UK. Many of the ten recommendations have since been formally accepted by the Government, one of which was that a new award should be created to recognise the contribution of individuals who have shown exceptional innovation in the field of legacy fundraising.
The judging panel for the award comprised:
Roland Rudd, Chair of Legacy10 and Finsbury
Sue Owen, Permanent Secretary, Department for Culture, Media and Sport
Christopher Hope, Daily Telegraph and Trustee of Elizabeth’s Legacy of Hope
Richard Reed, Co-Founder, Innocent Drinks
Luke Rittner, Chief Executive, Royal Academy of Dance
