V&A and Essex Wildlife Trust win Legacy10 Awards for Excellence

Legacy10 is pleased to announce that two legacy fundraisers, Susan Hughes and Rosalyn Leclercq, have been recognised in this year’s awards.

Susan Hughes, Legacies Manager at the V&A, won the national award, and Rosalyn Leclercq, Legacy Officer at the Essex Wildlife Trust, won the regional award. Both winners receive a prize of £2500, with their respective charities receiving a matched sum.

Another shortlisted entrant, David Burgess, Head of Partnerships and Development at the English Touring Opera, was highly commended by the judging panel. He will receive a prize of £1000, with the same amount also given to his charity.

The panel, comprising senior experts in the fields of philanthropy, business and the media and chaired by Legacy10 founder and Chairman Roland Rudd, agreed that Susan and Rosalyn were great examples of the hardworking and passionate legacy-fundraisers working throughout the UK. They were chosen from a shortlist of five candidates representing a range of both large and small charities.

Roland Rudd, founder and Chair of Legacy10, commented:

“Legacies ensure sustainable sources of funding for charities. They will become an increasingly important income stream in the future, and both Susan and Rosalyn have demonstrated how a strong legacies programme can deliver huge benefits.”

The awards, specially created by the British artist Mark Plenderleith, will be presented by Rt. Hon Sajid Javid MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, at a private dinner with the winners in January.

Rt. Hon Sajid Javid MP commented:

“Many congratulations to Susan and Rosalyn for their successful work encouraging this important source of funding for the arts. Legacy giving is a great way for people to give something back to the arts companies and institutions that have provided them with so much pleasure and delight during their lives and Government changes to the tax regime around it are making it simpler and more cost effective for the giver.”

The Legacy10 Award for Excellence was set up to recognise those who have contributed to legacy giving in the UK through innovation and delivery, and was open to all legacy fundraisers working for a registered UK charity.
