Why now?
The genesis of the campaign was a number of discussions between Roland Rudd and Jeremy Hunt, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport on supporting philanthropy, and following those Roland Rudd established Legacy10 which enjoys the full support of the Secretary of State.
In this year’s budget, effective from next April, the government announced a significant change to Inheritance tax law (IHT), aimed at encouraging people to give more to charitable causes.
What are the specific changes to IHT?
From April 2012, any estate that leaves at least 10% to a charitable or cultural cause will be able to take advantage of a cut in inheritance tax from the current level of 40% down to 36%.
